Opening of the Permanent Diplomatic Representation of Azerbaijan in Slovakia
During the official visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E. Mr. Elmar Mammadyarov to the Slovak Republic on 26 January, 2015 and his meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčak, with a view of promoting and developing bilateral relations between the two states the decision was taken to establish permanent diplomatic representation of Azerbaijan in Slovakia. In this regard, within the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Austria (also accredited to the Slovak Republic) Office in Bratislava was established and Charge d’Affaires with permanent residence there was appointed.
The official inauguration of the Office took place on 23 September 2015 where representatives of the Slovak Government, National Council, former Slovak President H.E. Mr. Rudolf Shuster as well of the diplomatic corps accredited to the Slovak Republic participated.
Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Austria, the Slovak Republic and the Republic of Slovenia H.E. Mr. Galib İsrafilov, Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E. Mr. Fakhraddin Gurbanov and State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic H.E. Mr. Igor Slobodnik delivered their welcoming speeches at the ceremony. They underlined the importance of establishing the diplomatic mission in Bratislava which should be a new stage in bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Slovakia and serve for their further strengthening at broadening in various fields.
